Did you know that New Mexico has a Senior Olympics every year? In fact, their slogan is, “You don’t stop playing because you grow old, you grow old because you stop playing.” And at Home Care Assistance of Albuquerque, we couldn’t agree more! Staying active well into your older years offers a variety of physical and even mental benefits and is an important factor for enhanced health and longevity.
So how do you participate in the New Mexico Senior Summer Olympics (NMSO)?
- Get involved in sports at the local Albuquerque level and start practicing now! You can choose from sports like shuffleboard, swimming and even dance.
- Once you’ve decided on a sport, contact the Albuquerque NMSO coordinator, Brett Steinmetz, at 505-880-2800 for details on where and when your sport will have play offs.
- Land one of the top six spots in your age division at an NMSO sanctioned competition between January and May and you qualify for the Olympics! It’s that simple.
Part of a well balanced approach to senior care involves exercise and physical activity, and preparing for the NMSO entails both! If you’re looking for somewhere to practice, the Palo Duro 50+ Sports and Fitness Center is the perfect place to get ready for Summer Games. This local, seniors-only gym offers light weight training, group classes and serves as the official headquarters for the city’s 50+ Sports & Fitness Program.
If you could use some help getting to the gym or would like a workout buddy, hourly care Albuquerque providers are available 24/7. We are dedicated to the health and happiness of our senior clients and would be thrilled to help you or an aging loved one pursue a sport you are passionate about.
